Fianna was founded at the end of 1997 and competed in the Southern California
Division for the first time in 1998. From these humble beginnings Na
Fianna has attained some great successes, representing Southern California
at the NACB National Championships in 1998, 2003, and 2004. NaFianna
has won the Southern California League in 2002, 2003 and 2004. NaFianna
also became North American National Champions in September 2004 and
2005. The second win in a row, meant that Na Fianna would be moved
up a division to compete at the Jr. A level. Na Fianna recently competed
in the 2006 North American National Championships where they
competed
at the
Jr.
A level,
reaching
the
finals.
The club has a very strong team spirit and is all about women playing sport in a fun and competitive environment. The term Na Fianna translates from Gaeilge, the national language of Ireland, to mean "The Warriors". Since its inception Na Fianna has grown to a club of over thirty playing members. The strength of the club comes in part from it's diverse membership. Our players come from all over the globe: Ireland, America, Japan, Australia and even Mexico! Na Fianna trains every Tuesday and Thursday evening in the local San Diego area. We are San Diego's only womens gaelic football team and represent SD in the Southern California League.
